This project included a new concourse A and renovation to Concourse B and C to provide 23 gates including 2 for international flights, 80,000 square feet of new concession space, and a new consolidated passenger and baggage screening. The design includes sustainable features to achieve LEED Gold Status. The project required working closely with Homeland Security, Federal Aviation Administration, Federal Inspection Services and the multiple airlines serving Birmingham.

MBA provided the sediment and erosion control design and assisted with ADEM permitting for the 3.5 year long project. Due to the Airport’s need to keep the existing terminal and concourse open and proximity to Village Creek (a tier 1 classified waterway), MBA’s design had to be inventive and unique to adhere to ADEM’s policies and fit the Airport’s site.

MBA has also worked on 3 other drainage and erosion control projects in the efforts to remediate and stabilize the vast acres maintained by the Birmingham Airport Authority.
